The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women

Dear Delegates,

It is my absolute pleasure to welcome you all to 2023 Japan Metropolitan Model United Nations. I am Yuri Ikeda and I will be serving as the director of the Advanced committee along with Shiori this year. 

I am a 11th grade student passionate about literature and women’s empowerment. Having lived in New York, America for five years made me become interested in the realm of international relations and Model United Nations. This is my first year directing a committee, but I will do my best to support you all and to run everything smoothly. 

In this ever-evolving world, we must pay special attention to invariables and prevailing social customs, including enduring prejudices and harmful traditions. Gender discrimination is certainly one of them and is an urgent problem the world have to tackle jointly. This year’s Advanced committee will be focusing on the subject of gender equality and women empowerment with the topic “Developing a Cohesive System to Promote Gender Parity”. Discussing the status quo of gender disparity problems in each country, we further hope for a creation of a joint program advancing the rights of women that will both encourage signatories to make sustainable measurements and ensure international cooperation.

I look forward to being part of this conference and will make sure that you have an enriching and inspiring experience here at JMMUN!
