-WELCOME TO JMMUN-

Letter from the Secretary-General

代表者の皆様、顧問の先生方。

I am greatly honored to welcome you all to Japan Metropolitan Model United Nations 2026.

Marking the eleventh anniversary of JMMUN, this year stands as both a commemoration of our past achievements and a step toward new horizons. Over the past decade, JMMUN has flourished into one of the largest student-led, all-English Model United Nations conferences in Japan. As we enter a new era, our Secretariat is committed to upholding this tradition of excellence while striving to elevate the conference to new heights. One of our significant improvements this year is the incorporation of the “In and Out” committee format. While this may be a new experience for many delegates, we will provide them with all the necessary sources to facilitate the conference’s flow, and we are eager to witness the new interactions it will inspire. Next March, delegates from Japan and the international community will gather at Senzoku Gakuen to address urgent global challenges in an environment characterized by diversity, inclusivity, and mutual respect.

The theme of this year’s JMMUN is “Momentum: Rising Above Crisis Through Unity.” In today’s world, crises of every kind—from environmental challenges to geopolitical tensions—too often leave the international community divided and hesitant to act. Too frequently, responses are slowed by competing interests and fragmented approaches, allowing problems to escalate rather than resolve. Yet, history shows that when nations and peoples unite with determination, progress can be achieved even in the most challenging circumstances. Building momentum through cooperation is therefore essential: by working together, we can transform crises into opportunities for renewal and growth. At JMMUN 2026, we envision a conference where delegates harness this spirit of unity and demonstrate how collective action can overcome even the greatest global challenges.

To me, Model United Nations isn’t just about writing strong draft resolutions or debating policies; it’s about the experience. It’s the friendships formed across borders, the confidence gained from speaking up, and the moments when you surprise yourself with how much you can contribute. Every conference is a chance to challenge your perspective, grow as a leader, and discover that diplomacy is not only about finding solutions, but also about understanding one another. So even if MUN seems challenging to you, I would strongly recommend you to give it a try at JMMUN 2026!

Please feel free to contact us at jmmunadmin@senzoku.ac.jp if you have any questions or concerns.

We look forward to seeing you all at JMMUN 2026!

Yours faithfully,

Risa Miki
