-WELCOME TO JMMUN-
Letter from the Secretary-General
代表者の皆様、顧問の先生方。
It is my utmost pleasure as Secretary-General to welcome you all to Japan Metropolitan Model United Nations 2025.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of JMMUN; over the past decade, JMMUN has continued to grow, becoming one of the largest student-run, all-English Model United Nations conferences held in Japan. The staff are working to make JMMUN 2025 the best conference yet, and hundreds of students from both inside and outside of Japan will gather at Senzoku Gakuen next March to discuss global issues from a new perspective in a diverse and inclusive environment.
The theme for this year’s JMMUN is “Harmony: Taking Down Barriers of Prejudice and Misconception”. Global issues such as regional disputes and discrimination are caused by conflicting ideologies and interests, and prejudice and misconceptions about other cultures and peoples prevent global actors from finding a path to solution and peaceful unification. Furthermore, one of the reasons these issues are not being solved is because conflicting countries see each other through a biased, negative lens, and instead of trying to come up with solutions through understanding and discussion, countries criticize each other and neglect solving global issues. Therefore, understanding one another through dialogue and removing such obstacles is crucial to achieving peace and harmony, and we aim for a conference in which delegates can come together and remove these obstacles by sharing their views and solutions.
There may be delegates who feel that Model United Nations is too challenging; at first, MUN seemed very complicated and difficult to me as well, but after participating in practices and conference simulations, I found out how fun and interesting MUN could be. Even if MUN seems challenging to you, I would strongly recommend you to give it a try! There are three committee levels at JMMUN – beginner, intermediate, and advanced – and I can guarantee that all delegates who participate in JMMUN can further their knowledge and experience as well as their passion for MUN.
Please feel free to contact us at jmmunadmin@senzoku.ac.jp if you have any questions or concerns.
We look forward to seeing you all at JMMUN 2025!
Yours faithfully,
Saki Jodai
